Downhill Lie
How To Hit a Downhill Lie
To hit a downhill lie you will have to make a few adjustments in your setup and club selection.
With a down hill lie the ball will tend to come out low so you will need to use a higher lofted club to get it to the green with some backspin on it or to get over any obstacles that may be in the way.
If your usual club from where you are standing would be a 6 iron, you may have to drop down to a 7 iron or even an 8 iron. This will give you the extra loft you will need to complete this shot.
Next you will setup with the ball slightly back in your stance. Do not try to scoop the ball. Let the loft of the club do it’s job and hit down on the ball.
Setup with your shoulders more parallel with the slope and your spine a little more upright. This will cause a little steeper swing and help you to get a nice clean hit on the ball.
With a downhill shot your weight will be slightly more on your left side. Always take a couple practice swings when hitting a downhill or an uphill shot to give yourself a feel for your swing and where it will hit the ground.
