How To Hit An Uphill Lie

Hitting an uphill lie in golf is not too difficult as long as you have the proper setup and follow through. The hardest part is probably the follow through because it is harder to shift your weight uphill.

The first thing to consider when hitting an uphill lie is the severity of the slope. This will determine the club selection. The more severe the slope, the longer club you will need.

There are two reasons for this. The first is that the ball will tend to fly at a higher trajectory off an uphill lie and secondly you will not be able to get as much weight shift with this shot.

If you are at a distance that would normally be an 8 iron and you have a sever uphill lie, you may have to drop down to a 7 or even a 6 iron to make this shot.

Once you have selected your club you can start with your setup. Place the ball a little forward in your stance. From here it is very important to get your shoulders more parallel with the slope and to get your spine angle perpendicular to the slope.

Try to set up with a balanced stance. If you are on a slope your weight is going to want to naturally go to your back foot. Try to avoid this. Try to keep your weight evenly distributed.

Now that you have gotten into position go ahead and take your golf swing. Be sure you try to follow through like a normal golf shot and get your weight over to your left side.

I hope these golf tips on hitting uphill lies have been helpful to you. Try them out next time you find yourself in this situation.
